The population of quantitative phase includes educators in Fars and Isfahan provinces in academic year 2016.  Sampling method in the qualitative section was purposive and snowball and in quantitative section, 566 teachers have been selected randomly. Information was collected by the semi-structured interview and researcher-made questionnaire. Qualitative findings were categorized based on content analysis and quantitative findings are analyzed by the inferential and descriptive statistics. After performing preliminary study and analyzing the questionnaires, it was determined that reliability of individual characteristics was 86% and that of the specialized capabilities was 87% as well. Results of the Friedman’s test showed that according to viewpoint of teachers about the individual specifications, mental and personal health is very important, among specialized capabilities of the teachers, ability to manage the class is at top of related items in terms of importance.

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to design and validate the narrative inquiry curriculum for professional development of student-teachers in Farhangian university. The model of narrative inquiry curriculum is grounded on the theories of Dewey, Bruner, Schwab, Vygotsky, Donald Schön, Clandinin and Connelly. In this model, learning is a reflective practice and experience-based practice. The student- teachers make sense meaning through thinking and reflection on self-experiences of themselves and the experiences of others; They actively learn, acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes through narratives and enhance their professional development. In this study, two main questions were addressed: 1.) What characteristics have a model of narrative inquiry curriculum for professional development of student- teachers? 2.) Is this the model is validated? To answer those questions, a descriptive-analytical method was employed. The model was designed and validated by 20 curriculum experts and teacher- educators. This research aimed to study the challenges which elementary teachers deal with lesson study. This research studied challenges in three stages, before, during and after lesson study. To achieve the aim of the research, a case study in a school was used. Participants of this research have been 20 elementary teacher of that school. Data collection tools have been semi-structured interviews with teachers and participatory observation. Coding and categorizing were used to analyzing data. Findings showed that teachers faced with three categories of challenges before lesson study: teachers' knowledge about lesson study, teachers’ motivation to participatet in lesson study, creating group and determination of the responsibilities of the group members. During lesson study teachers faced with three categories of challenges: selecting problem, implementing lesson and data collection, reviewing and criticizing the lesson. Abstract

The purpose of this study is understanding the Personal Practical Knowledge (PPK) of teachers which has been done through qualitative method. Understanding PPK helps us to understand why teachers act in a specific way. In this regards, reflecting on their personal and professional narratives also help to improve their practice. This study was conducted along with 13 teachers in a non-profit primary school in Tehran. The results of the study indicate teachers’ rich knowledge of factors affecting success of the teaching profession. However, the data obtained from the observations show the difference between what the teacher describes as a successful teacher and effective teaching, and what happens in their practice. The dynamic and contextual nature of the teacher's knowledge and the different meanings and interpretations of similar experiences and events and absence of reflection are the factors that cause this differences.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the relationship between algebra content formation in mathematics textbooks and the mathematics teachers’ current knowledge. Based on this aim, we have considered three subjects: 1. mathematics teachers’ current knowledge of algebra, 2. the beginning and presentation methods of algebra content on the number of selected previous textbooks and 3.the role of previous textbooks content in teacher knowledge forming. Research Methodology had been a survey, content analysis, and historical and documentary analysis. This study showed that the teachers' knowledge and teaching methods do not coincide with the algebra content of the current seventh-grade mathematics textbook, and about 30% of teachers’ knowledge is based on the experiences of the previous textbooks.

Abstract

A research was conducted using qualitative approach, to identify the required knowledge for mathematics educators that are preparing prospective elementary teachers. Two mathematics educators from “Farhangian University” participated in this study. The data collected from four different sources observation of virtual classes of two participants while teaching multiplication and division of fractions, semi-structred interviews with participant, educators’ lesson plans and first author’s field notes. The classes hold virtually due to the Covid-19 pandamic. After many levels of systematic data reduction, three categories emerged as “the role of educators’ beliefs in teaching mathematicsL, “choosing challenging content for developing conceptual understanding of multiplication and division of fractions and “recognition of misconceptions of elementary students”. As a result, a theoretical framework developed for required knowledge of mathematics educators with four components as “knowledge of mathematics-content”, “knowledge of mathematics curriculum", "knowledge of students’ mathematics misconceptions” and “knowledge of modifying teaching to fit the situation.”

For this purpose, qualitative research method with phenomenological approach was used. Participants in the study included first grade elementary school teachers in the academic year 1399-1400 .which reached a theoretical saturation by purposive sampling with 11 people. The research tool was a semi-structured interview. The data obtained from the interview were extracted by inductive content analysis method and using open coding technique in concept sections, subcategories and main categories. The most important categories extracted included new goals, creative assignments, new teaching methods, use of various games, art education websites, audio file (storytelling). Also, the most important benefits extracted included the use of various resources and materials in education, appropriate and optimal use of teaching time, more teacher communication with individual students.

Abstract

The purpose of the current research is to review the ratio of two linguistic approaches (standard language and mother tongue) in education based on the lived experience of elementary teachers. The research paradigm is interpretive/constructive, the research approach is qualitative, the research strategy is phenomenology, and the research tactic is latent content analysis. The purposeful sampling method and the intended sample included teachers of Baluch, Lor, Turk, Turkmen, Kurdish and Arab ethnic groups. The data collection tool was a semi-structured interview, and the interviews continued until the theoretical saturation stage, and 31 teachers were interviewed. The data format was in audio format. To analyze the data, two stages of open and axial coding (Strauss and Corbin schools) were used. In total, 385 primary codes, 27 subcategories and 9 main categories were extracted. These categories include: authenticating the mother tongue, crisis bilingualism, the transformation of ethnic languages, strengthening the hegemonic language, the existence of linguistic diversity, revising the language policy, the necessity of implementing Article 15 of the Constitution, the identity function of language, and language policy. In general, the teachers stated that the Persian language is a symbol of national identity and a means of bonding between Iranian ethnic groups, and in parallel, it is necessary to make preparations to solve the language problems of ethnic students in educational and lesson plans.

Purposive sampling method and criterion method, all the teachers of multi-grade classes in Boyar Ahmad city in 1400 who had more than three years of teaching experience in multi-grade classes were selected and finally 25 people were interviewed based on theoretical saturation. The analysis of the interviews was done using the Claysey model and thematic analysis method. The findings were classified into four main themes: consequences related to teachers, students, parents and the educational system. The validity of the data was confirmed by using the techniques of reliability, transferability and alignment of data, and the reliability of the data was also confirmed by the accurate guidance of the flow of information collection and alignment of the researchers.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the perception of primary school teachers on how to help students in instructing of the volume, using the task-based interview method. For this purpose, some tasks was designed and implemented with two general question for six volunteer primary school teachers who had experience in teaching fifth and sixth grades. The answers were analyzed according to the instruction component of the cognitive activation model in the classroom (Kraus et al., 2008). The results showed the lecture method, the less use of concrete representations, different perceptions of the volume definition, spatial limitations and relying on arithmetic representation in solving the task. In total, the results of this research clarify the need of teachers to improve their knowledge in the field of instructing of the volume, and for this purpose, suggestions have been presented.
