Abstract

This paper wants to discover the role of teaching culture in type of teachers encounter to ‎modifications of math schedule of first grade of high school in Qaemshahr. Findings of ‎qualitative research by methodology of ethnography showed that teachers belief have been ‎evaluated to two positive perspective and critical perspective toward changes of math book ‎of ‎‏7‏th grade. Also they have presented two spectra of behavior in encountering changes in ‎math school books of the ‎‏7‏th grade: Full admission‏ ‏‎,‎‏ ‏Resistance and rejection. The research ‎results showed that understanding the culture of teachers is an essential factor to initiate ‎any reform that with improvement in attitude to change, teachers’ tendencies will be more ‎positive towards advancing ne schedules; it means that if teachers know the change useful ‎and necessary, they will perform them with more commitment and fidelity

Abstract

The National curriculum of Islamic Republic of Iran has been focused on promoting students’ modeling skills. In consideration of this emphasis, this study has investigated the attitudes towards mathematics and the views towards mathematical modeling problems of 244 students in grade 10. This research was conducted with a pre-test, followed by an educational intervention and a post-test. During the educational intervention, two groups of students with different instructional formats; the direct teaching method, which is teacher-centered, and the operative-strategic method, which is student-centered, attended 6 sessions of modeling problem-solving. In order to gather data for the study, a Likert scale and an open questionnaire were used. The results of this study showed that teaching modeling problems improved students’ attitudes towards mathematics in both groups. While most students had positive attitudes that expressed the modeling problems as interesting and applicable, other students had negative comments.

Abstract

This study has compared the goals and objectives of orientation and mobility (O&M) curriculums in Iran and America. The Bereday’s comparative method was used in this research. Initially the goals were defined and interpreted based on two criteria including the level of generality and the level of coverage and then they were compared by juxtaposition. The study found that American O&M curriculum has 41 functional mobility tasks with 38 goals and 270 objectives solidly based on the students' needs in five different environments: home/living, campus, residential, commercial and public transportation. Furthermore, some of these goals were also devoted to low vision students. Iranian O&M curriculum had only developed 10 goals and 75 objectives exclusively for blind students, ingnoring their surrounding environment. American O&M curriculum with specific goals and objectives provides numerous opportunities for blind as well as low vision students to learn O&M skills through a meaningful learning environment extremely helpful in their daily lives.

Abstract

This paper aimed to clarify the role of moral concepts in elementary course curriculum. By qualitative content analysis, firstly, the moral concepts in textbooks are inductively determined and then sorted into more general categories. Then, according to fluency and integration in any class and also evolutionary arranging in the whole course, the vertical and horizontal organizations of these concepts are examined. The results showed that Persian books in all courses have the most fictions and the most moral concepts. Unfortunately arranging of concepts in those books are not noticed and among fifteen moral concepts only “good behaving”, “loving humankind” and “effort” have the fluency and integrity factors, qualitatively or quantitatively. The other concepts, not in the repetition, nor in the arrangement, have an appropriate organization in different courses.

Abstract

: Flourishing students' artistic capacities is among the major missions of education in the Document of Fundamental Reform. The five axes of artistic education including communication with nature, aesthetics, artistic production, familiarity with cultural and artistic history and heritage, and artistic criticism, along with the content structure of culture and art textbooks including visual arts, calligraphy, traditional arts, vocal arts and performing arts are all issues that should be considered by planners in developing potential human abilities. This study involved the content analysis of the culture and art textbooks of the junior secondary system in 2015-2016. Images, texts, and activities were taken as the unit of record. The encoding method was deductive following the topical and structural aspects of culture and art education. To validate the encoding process, a second rater encoded 10 percent of the content, indicating a correlation of 0.89. The results revealed that artistic production, aesthetics, artistic criticism, familiarity with cultural and artistic history and heritage and communicating with nature are the most significant aspects of artistic education respectively. Additionally, visual arts, traditional arts, calligraphy, vocal arts, and performing arts are the main priorities. The study of the 3D model of curriculum structure showed the application of all three activity types (prescriptive, semi-prescriptive and non-prescriptive) in the textbooks, but their content needs to be reviewed regarding the coordination of activities with the educational content presented, the form of content integration, balance and diversity, and the lack of raising students’ motivation and creativity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine multicultural education in the content of Farsi textbooks of elementary education in Iran.This research was conducted within a qualitative framework and the qualitative content analysis method was used with a conventional (inductive) approach. The sampling method was purposeful and the sample included Farsi textbooks of all the grades of elementary education. The unit of analysis (record) was the theme, pictures and units of the textbooks. To determine the reliability of the qualitative content analysis method with the inductive approach, the review was conducted in two stages, one after completion of 10-50% of the categorizations and the other at the end of the research. Five categories were extracted as the result: introducing and paying attention to mother tongue of ethnoses; introducing celebrities; reflection of dressing style of ethnoses; cultural traditions of ethnoses and introducing cultural heritage. The analysis of the quality of the books showed that only the trace of dominant culture in the textbooks was observed. The findings show that the educational system seemingly seeks to implement a pattern of cultural assimilation that leads to the suppression of the languages and cultures of the Iranian minorities. This approach could bring about negative and reverse effects, and increase the awareness of the people of their identity and history and culture.

Abstract

Abstract
The current study aims to evaluate teaching puberty components to girls in the seventh grade of  first stage high school textbooks. These components includes sexual, physical, emotional, psychological, mental (cognitive), social, religious, and civil puberty. Research method was qualitative content analysis, and the target population included all the seventh grade of  first stage high school textbooks in the school year 1394 - 1395, and among them Thinking and Lifestyle (Mutual book for boys and girls, Thinking and Lifestyle Mutual book for boys and girls), Divine Messages, Social Studies and Experimental Science were chosen. As a result, 337 puberty components were found in the chosen books. In case of evaluation of puberty with 115 (34/ 2%) components was in the first place and Religious puberty with 115(12/32%) categories had the highest amount and putative puberty with 22 categories (52/6%) had the lowest amount.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship education has a significant effect on the economic growth of societies. The goal of entrepreneurship education is to develop skills and entrepreneurial skills. By developing these skills at an earier age, young, capable, creative and innovative people can be found in all aspects of social, cultural, political and economic life. The purpose of the research is to model for designing an entrepreneurship education curriculum for the the junior high School students. Field of study is includes texts and authoritative documents of curriculum and entrepreneurship education. The tatistical population of the experts and professors of the university, and the statistical sample, wer 30 curriculum and entrepreneurship specialists who were selected by avilable method. The data gathering tool was a questionnaire and interview. The method of research is mixed. The research findings inglude a patterned design for entrepreneurship education for the junior high School students.

Abstract

The main question of this study is that: “what are the reference characteristics of language arts curriculum in the first-cycle of Primary School on the base of theoretical framework and the related practices of some education systems in the field of language arts curriculum and instruction”. The subsidiary question is that: “from the viewpoint of Farsi language arts practitioners and language arts curriculum experts in primary school, which of these characteristics are valid and trustworthy for applying in developing the Farsi language arts curriculum in the first-cycle of Primary School. Abstract

In this research we investigated female elementary students’ level of mastery over science and mathematics content and explained the nature of relationship between students’ level of mastery and learnability of content in science and mathematics. 914 female students of public senior elementary schools in Kashan were recruited. The needed data for fourth and fifth graders were gathered through researcher-made tests; the data related to sixth graders were gathered through standard exams taken from the students of this grade in the end of semester. Content validity of tests was verified by connoisseur teachers in each grade and was confirmed by structural equation modelling. For explaining the quantitative findings, we implemented 9 interviews with experienced and expert teachers which were selected through purposeful sampling method. The main analysis revealed that students learning is significantly lower than the mastery level in almost half of the science syllabus and all of the mathematics syllabus.

Abstract

The present study aimed at identifying the challenges of “descriptive evaluation” program launched by the Ministry of Education in Iran in 2004, nationwide. The research was designed through employing qualitative approach and phenomenography to better understand the challenges which elementary teachers had with evaluation of “mathematics” as one of the subject matters. The participants of the study were 24 elementary teachers who voluntarily participated in this study.  The data were collected through semi- structured interviews, a focus group and researchers’ field notes and their interactive discussions about interviews and focus group. Four main categories of challenges were identified: “policy- making”, “executive- education”, “conceptual” and “social- cultural”. It is concluded that a clearer picture of challenges that elementary teachers encounter with this program while teaching mathematics needs to be presented. It is necessary for policy- makers and planners to find more rational solutions for these challenges.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the position of ethnicity in formal and hidden curricula of the new secondary education system in the 98-97 academic year. The research method in the first part of the research included documentary analysis and qualitative content analysis. Sampling in this section was targeted and included 6 volumes of books in the form of more than 960 pages of history & sociology books in the second secondary school.The content analysis unit in this section was text, images, and textbook activities. In the second part of the research, the research method was qualitative and ethnographic and various tools such as student journals and informal interviews were used in collecting research data. Finally, based on the findings of this study, it can be acknowledged that the position of ethnicity in the formal and hidden curricula of the secondary school was undesirable.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is investigating the internal consistency of the electrotechnical field curriculum in technical and vocational branch from the view point of stakeholders. This study is practical in purpose and is done using the quantitative method. The statistical population includes all of the educational manager, teachers and students of electrotechnical field in Yazd province. A census method was used to select the sample. In order to gather data, the researcher-made questionnaire was used. The questionnaire validity and reliability was respectively confirmed by CVI index and Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Eventually Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Tottally, according to Kessels theories in curriculum internal consistency and study findings, the electrotechnical field curriculum does not have the necessary internal consistency and some measures were proposed to increase it accordance with Kessels theories.

Abstract

Main purpose of current study is Content analysis of mathematics textbooks in primary and secondary school in terms of the amount of activities which designed based on problem-posing approach. Type of this research is qualitative and mathematics textbooks in grades 1-9 which published in 1398 school year were considered as statistical population. In this regard, firstly, the key words that confirm the problem-posing were identified, then the situations were identified in the textbook, and finally the situations were categorized   according to theoretical framework from literature. Finding of this research shows that there are only 40 problem-posing situations in these mathematics textbooks which 60 percent of them appeared in the second three years of primary school textbooks. Moreover 67.5 percent of these problem posing situation have semi-structured context. Comparison between the number of problem-posing activities and problem-solving activities in mathematics textbooks show that textbooks writers had little attention to problem-posing activities.

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate what and how entertainment-based education is in elementary school curricula. The research paradigm was qualitative and research synthesis method. The research population consisted of valid and new research papers, books and research projects in the world and the sampling method was a purposeful method based on criteria. In order to improve the quality of the findings, after the final coding and categorization, the opinions of the professors of the curriculum were used. The logic of the program was explained in the form of a set of philosophical foundations of constructivism. The goals of entertainment-based education included building individual competence, skills training, reducing the digital divide, building interest in education, promoting media literacy, and providing lifelong learning;Teaching and learning strategies included direct instruction, rotational instruction, problem-solving instruction, and exploratory instruction;Evaluation is done in the form of formative evaluation, self-evaluation and final evaluation.

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the educational activities of the preschool mathematics books regarding geometric shapes using documentary method. For the analysis, we used the document published in 1396 (2017) by the Ministry of Education in Iran for preschool level., as well as the zero, first and second level of the revised Van Hiele Model (Clementes and Batista, 1992) including Pre-recognition, Syncretic and analysis as the criteria. At first level, 10 criteria for analyzing activities of geometry shapes from the first three levels of the revised Van Hiele Model (Clementes and Batista, 1992) exteracted. Then five textbooks which were recommended by Education Growth Bibliography, Welfare Organization and several preschool centers selected and their geometric shapes content evaluated according to the 10 extracted criteria. Results showed the highest frequency of educational activities belonged to level one and the lowest frequency beloged to zero level of the revised Van Hiele model. The study concluded that the content of the preschool mathematics books needs to be revised and the educational activities of higher level than two recommended to be transferred to higher grade mathematics textbooks.
