Abstract

The aim of the present study is the predict of worry based on behavioral activation and inhibition systems, cognitive emotion regulation strategies and intolerance of uncertainty in students. In terms of objective, this study is off is study is the fundamental type, and in terms of data collection, it is of the correlation type. For this purpose, 200 students were selected using convenience sampling (available sampling) from Masters students at the Islamic Azad University of Tabriz in 2014-2015 school year. The participants were asked to answer the measures of behavioral activation and inhibition systems (BAS/BIS), Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (SERQ), intolerance of uncertainty Scale (IUS) and the Penn state worry Questionnaire (PSWQ). Data were analyzed by the analysis of variance and stepwise regression. Results showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the variables of behavioral inhibition system, negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies, and intolerance of uncertainty in one hand, and worry in another hand (p<0.01), and there was a negative significant relationship between the positive strategies of cognitive emotion regulation and worry (p<0.01). These variables were able to predict 1/54 of the total variance of concern (p<0.001). In addition, the relationship between the behavioral activator system variable and worry was not significant. Worry is related to a variety of negative consequences, including a high degree of emotional reactivity and inefficient regulation styles. Thus, the findings of this study have practical implications in the clinical arena.

Abstract

Given that Gray behavioral-brain systems and AFECT combined nature emotional-affective model, a biological model of personality is introduced which forms individual differences  so that each activity results in calling of different reactions. This  present research aimed to  provide relational  patterns of behavioral-brain systems with dimensions of combined nature emotional-affective model. Statistical population contained 220 university students from ShahidMadani University of Azarbaiijan that sampling method was categorical clustering  and subjects were tested by Jackson Personality Questionnaire  and AFFECT. To analysis  data, Pearson  correlation coefficient  and simultaneous multi regression were done. Results  of  regression showed that all dimensions of AFECT combined nature emotional-affective model  are predictable from  relational  patterns of Gray behavioral-brain systems with significance in level 0/01, except anger and spree, the highest percent of prediction belongs to emotional nature of control and the lowest percent of prediction belongs to anger  so that 16% variances former as well as7% variance of  later are predictable from Gray theory. The  highest  percent of prediction is for depression affect which 15% of changes as well as the lowest  prediction was for spree which 8% of changes were predictable from Gray theory. Collectively,  results from research  on statistical population is indicator of rational patterns between theories of Gray behavioral-brain systems and AFECT combined nature emotional-affective model.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of combined cognitive rehabilitation interventions (computer and manual) on improving the speed of information processing and improving the mental status variables (MMSE) in women with MS. This research was conducted with pre-test and post-test design with two month follow-up. Twenty two women with MS were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned to two groups of 12, and the experimental group received cognitive rehabilitation training and the intervention group did not receive any intervention. All participants of the first and last sessions were evaluated by MMSE and Auditory Sequence Test (PASAT). The research was conducted in 21 sessions in Arak and data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of variance analysis with repeated measurements using SPSS-24 software.The findings showed that the main effect of the time factor (pre-test, post-test, follow-up) on the selected score was significant. Conclusion: Manual cognitive rehabilitation is effective in improving the selective attention of female patients with multiple sclerosis. It is recommended that these interventions be used to improve the information processing speed and the psychological state of women with MS.

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning is the ability of inductive and inferential reasoning with mathematical concepts that underlying cognitive variables play an important role in explaining it. The purpose of this study is to model the role of divided attention and working memory in mathematical reasoning with the mediation of mathematical knowledge and fluid intelligence in fourth grade elementary students. This study is non-experimental (descriptive) and a type of correlational study in which data were analyzed by Path Analysis. The statistical population of the research included all male fourth-graders of the primary schools in District 4 of Qom from which 213 students were randomly selected by two-stage cluster sampling. The study used different measures and instruments including the Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test-Second Edition (IVA-2 CPT) for measuring different types of attention, the Working Memory Index of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV), the Culture Fair Intelligence Test (CFIT), the knowing questions test and the mathematical reasoning questions test of TIMSS 2015. The findings of the study showed that all path coefficients are significant and appropriate model fit indices were obtained. The results indicate that working memory influenced by divided attention predicts mathematical reasoning with the mediation of mathematical knowledge and fluid intelligence. The research helps to develop in mathematics learning and cognitive rehabilitation of mathematical disorders by identifying the role of important cognitive variables in mathematical reasoning.

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate effectiveness of trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy on the reduction of brain-behavioral systems Sensitveness and experimental avoidance of veterans with PTSD. The current study is a semi-experimental one with pretest-posttest design with control group, The statistical population of this study included all Veterans in Marand in the year of 2019, among which 30 were selected as veterans with PTSD who referred to pouyameher Counseling and Psychological Services Center. Were selected through purposive sampling method and randomaly assigned to two groups of experimental and control. The data were collected using a posttrumatic stress disorder checklist (military version), Behavioural inhibition and behavioural activation system scales (BIS/BAS) and acceptance and action questionnaire-II (AAQ). Then, trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy were performed for 12 sessions (90 minutes in per session) each week for the experimental group. Data were analyzed by SPSS 20 using multiple covariance analysis. After controlling the effects of pretest, the mean scores of behavioural inhibition and behavioural activation system and experiential avoidance were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group (p<0.001). Training trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy education can be effective reduces brain-behavioral systems and experiential avoidance of veterans with PTSD. Therefore, the design and implementation of intervention based on this treatments can be useful in educating and promoting mental health in veterans with PTSD.

Abstract

Given the increase in criminal behaviors and the damage they cause in society; it is important to study the psychological factors that make people prone to crime or prevent it from committing. Accordingly, the present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of cognitive executive functions in the relationship between behavioral brain systems with cognitive emotion regulation in prisoner men. The research was descriptive-correlational. The study population included all men who were serving their sentences in Kermanshah Central Prison in 1398, from which 300 people were selected by convenience sampling method. The participants completed the Gray-Wilson Personality Questionnaire (GWPQ-28), Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ), and Cognitive Ability Questionnaire (Nejati, 2013). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and structural equations using SPSS22 and AMOS24. Findings showed that path analysis models of the relationship between behavioral brain systems and cognitive emotion regulation with executive functions' mediating role have a good fit. The results emphasize the importance of behavioral brain systems and executive functions in cognitive emotion regulation. As a result, paying attention to executive functions in controlling and cognitively regulating emotions and promoting them can be effective in reducing criminal behaviors.

Abstract

Due to the prevalence of depression and the existence of deficites in the executive functions of depressed people, it seems necessary to study and evaluate various treatment methods in the field of cognitive functions, including working memory. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Captain Log cognitive rehabilitation software on auditory and spatial working memory of people with depressive symptoms in Ahvaz. The method of this research was quasi-experimental with pre-test, post-test design and a control group. The population of this study was thirty individuals with depressive symptoms referring to psychology and psychiatric centers in Ahvaz and the web pages of these centers in 2009-2010. Participants were completed the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) and the Wechsler Active Memory Profile Test-Third Edition). Participants were matched based on gender, age, education, socio-economic status, lack of acute physical, psychological diseases and they were randomly allocated into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group recieved cognitive rehabilitation for 10 sessions using Captain Log software, while the control group did not receive any intervention. After the intervention and post-test, the data were analyzed using Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) by SPSS-24. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of auditory and spatial working memory (p < .001). The rate of auditory and spatial active memory in the experimental group were significantly increased in comparison with the pre-test scores and the scores of the control group. It can be concluded that Captain Log cognitive rehabilitation software has a significant effect on the auditory and spatial working memory of depressed people (p < .001). Therefore, the Captan Log cognitive rehabilitation software can be used to effectively increase the auditory and spatial working memory of people with depressive symptoms.

Abstract

Multiple sclerosis is a de-myelinating inflammatory condition of the central nervous system that is often thought of as an autoimmune disorder. These patients suffer from extensive cognitive impairments such as poor attention and concentration and memory and processing speed; Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the anodic effect of direct cortical electrical stimulation (tDCS) on sustained attention performance in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) in a pretest-posttest design with a control group. For this purpose, 32 patients with MS were selected using available sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The intervention consisted of 10 sessions of direct electrical stimulation during which patients were divided into two groups, one group received real stimulation and the other group received sham stimulation or sham. The research instruments were the use of RTI and RVP subtests in CANTAB test. Data analysis was performed based on independent and dependent t-test to compare pre-test and post-test scores in experimental and control groups. The results showed an improvement in sustained attention and processing speed in the experimental group at a significant level of 0.05. Therefore, we conclude that transcranial electrical stimulation of the brain improves sustained attention deficit and speed of response in patients with MS.

Abstract

The current research aims to examine the structural relationships between sleep problems and emotional intelligence in adolescents, considering the mediating role of defect in executive functions. The present research had a descriptive-correlational design. The study sample included 381 first-grade high school students in Tabriz during the academic year 1401-02, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire, the Siberia and Shiring Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, the Gross and John Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test software, and the Continuous Performance Test software task. Statistical methods used for data analysis included Pearson correlation coefficient and path analysis. The results showed that sleep problems have a direct and indirect influence on emotional intelligence through emotion regulation and cognitive flexibility. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that emotion regulation and cognitive flexibility play a mediating role in the relationship between sleep problems and emotional intelligence.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of providing a structural model of the effect of sleep disorders on learning problems with the mediating role of cognitive flexibility in children. This research was a descriptive-correlation study. The statistical population of the research included all primary school students (ages 9 to 12 years) in district 3 of Marand city in 2023. From this society, 300 students were selected by staged cluster sampling method. Data collection tools included Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ), Colorado Learning Difficulties Questionnaire (CLDQ) and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). Data analysis was done using Pearson correlation in spss version 26 and structural equation analysis in AMOS version 21. Data analysis showed that children's sleep disorders have a direct and positive effect on cognitive flexibility and learning problems, and cognitive flexibility also has a direct and positive effect on learning problems, which were statistically significant. Also, children's sleep disorders had a significant indirect effect on learning problems through cognitive flexibility in a positive way. These results mean the importance of maintaining and improving the quality of children's sleep to support the learning process and improve their cognitive performance. Therefore, paying attention to healthy sleeping habits and creating a suitable sleeping environment for children can be effective in increasing cognitive flexibility and reducing their learning problems.

Abstract

Research and clinical observations demonstrate that anxiety is a prevalent mental health issue in children, impacting various aspects of their lives throughout different developmental stages. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of mentalization-based therapy and parent-child relationship-based therapy in addressing executive functions and anxiety symptoms in anxious children. This research employed a semi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test, and follow-up assessments. The study's statistical population consisted of mothers of anxious children from the Bandar Abbas Oil Refining Company in 1402, with 45 eligible participants selected through available sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and a control group. Assessment tools included Giova et al.'s behavioral rating questionnaires (2000) and the Spence-Parent Form children's anxiety scale (1998) administered at pre-test, post-test, and follow-up stages. Data analysis utilized SPSS 26 software, incorporating descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of the mixed variance analysis indicated a significant difference between the control group and the mentalization-based and relationship-based treatment groups regarding executive functions and anxiety symptoms in anxious children (P < 0.05). Both mentalization and parent-child relationship interventions contributed to reduced anxiety symptoms and improved executive functions in anxious children. Furthermore, parent-child relationship therapy demonstrated greater efficacy in alleviating anxiety symptoms compared to mentalization-based therapy. Consequently, based on the study's outcomes, it is plausible to consider mentalization and parent-child relationship interventions as appropriate strategies for enhancing executive functions and alleviating anxiety symptoms in anxious children.
