Abstract

Executive function is a set of processes which is responsible for the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral and performance conduct of human being at the time of activities and problem solving. The aim of this study was the comparison of the executive function of the reorganization of thought in adolescents with cannabis abuse. This study is a casual comparison, so 50 adolescents with cannabis abuse who lived in Ahwaz’ juvenile institution and were between the age of 15 and 18 were selected and were compared with 50 normal adolescents of a high school in Ahwaz city, as the control group, who were similar to each other in terms of some demographical variables and who were selected through availability sampling. To collect the data, Gestalt test, TOVA test (as a continual performance test) and Vygotsky’s concept formation test were used. The data was analyzed through multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). The results showed that the adolescents with a cannabis abuse disorder had weaker performance in the behavior inhibition and reconstruction of thought than the normal adolescents and there was significant difference between these two groups. Generally speaking, considering the results of the study, i.e. the weaker performance of the adolescents with cannabis abuse disorder in executive functions (behavior inhibition and reorganization of thought) than the normal students, it seems that this weakness would lead to the inappropriate social behaviors, problems in decision making, inappropriate judgment, problems with innovation and change, distractibility and problems in various aspects of memory.

Abstract

The aim of the present study is the predict of worry based on behavioral activation and inhibition systems, cognitive emotion regulation strategies and intolerance of uncertainty in students. In terms of objective, this study is off is study is the fundamental type, and in terms of data collection, it is of the correlation type. For this purpose, 200 students were selected using convenience sampling (available sampling) from Masters students at the Islamic Azad University of Tabriz in 2014-2015 school year. The participants were asked to answer the measures of behavioral activation and inhibition systems (BAS/BIS), Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (SERQ), intolerance of uncertainty Scale (IUS) and the Penn state worry Questionnaire (PSWQ). Data were analyzed by the analysis of variance and stepwise regression. Results showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the variables of behavioral inhibition system, negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies, and intolerance of uncertainty in one hand, and worry in another hand (p<0.01), and there was a negative significant relationship between the positive strategies of cognitive emotion regulation and worry (p<0.01). These variables were able to predict 1/54 of the total variance of concern (p<0.001). In addition, the relationship between the behavioral activator system variable and worry was not significant. Worry is related to a variety of negative consequences, including a high degree of emotional reactivity and inefficient regulation styles. Thus, the findings of this study have practical implications in the clinical arena.

Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the discrimination role of reinforcement sensitivity theory, emotion regulation processes strategies and cognitive flexibility in discrimination of people with internet addiction. The research design was a two-group diagnostic function. The study population included Internet user students at Imam Khomeini International University in Qazvin (18 to 35 years). Sample selection was done using convenience sampling method. The research sample consisted of 92 participants (46 = Internet addiction, 46 = normal). Data were collected using the Internet addiction inventory, cognitive flexibility inventory, emotion regulation process strategies inventory and Jackson's five-factor scale; and were analyzed using discriminant analysis. The findings showed that reappraisal and cognitive flexibility negatively, and then BAS, BIS and suppression positivey, in order, had the strongest relationship with the present function and discriminated the groups from each other. But the system of FFFS did not have a significant role in the discrimination of the two groups. In general, cognitive flexibility, emotion regulation processes strategies, and BAS and BIS sensitivity are important factors in discrimination people with Internet addiction from normal people.

Abstract

The researcher's test consists of nineteen factors and has two parts: audio and visual; its content validity was confirmed by psychology professors and then a sample of 206 pre-school students was performedAccording to the calculations, Pearson correlation coefficient between the two-part questionnaire was r = 0.81 in the auditory comprehension section and r = 0.79 in the visual comprehension section.. In order to determine the validity of the structure and the components of the questionnaire, the main components analysis method was used with varimax normalized rotation. The most important factor in the visual-spatial perception area is the symbolization, and in the auditory part it is memory. Independent t-test was used to assess discriminant validity. Results showed that there is a significant difference between the mean scores of students with learning disabilities and normal in the learning disability test. In order to check the validity of this study, a checklist of learning disability that was completed at the same time by the mothers was used. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between the two tests. According to the validity and reliability, the learning disability test is a tool that can be used by learning and counseling centers.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation on improving working memory of adolescents with traumatic brain injury. The method of this research was quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test with control and follow-up groups. To conduct this study, 20 adolescents aged 9-18 years with traumatic brain injury referred to medical centers in Sadaf Shahriar (Parandmehr Clinic) were selected by convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two groups of 10 experimental and control. To measure the dependent variable of working memory, Wechsler scale 4 subtests (auditory measurement of working memory) and Benton test (visual-spatial measurement of working memory) were used. The experimental group underwent cognitive rehabilitation intervention (12 sessions of 45 minutes). Analysis of variance with repeated measures was used to analyze the data. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in pre-test, post-test and follow-up of working memory performance. The results showed a significant difference between the mean scores of working memory (auditory and visual-spatial measurements) of the experimental group and the control group in the post-test. In addition, there was no significant difference between post-test scores and follow-up in the experimental group, which showed the effect of cognitive rehabilitative perstability on working memory performance in adolescents with brain injury. Therefore, cognitive rehabilitation has a significant effect on improving working memory performance in patients with brain injury and can be used as an effective and useful method to improve working memory performance in adolescents with brain damage.
