Abstract

The objective of the current research is to compare the function of declarative memory among war veterans who are suffering from PTSD ,war veterans who are not suffering from PTSD and normal people without any war experience the research has also aimed at studying and comparing the influence of the modifying role of meta cognition on the function of declarative memory among the three groups of the study.60 people have been selected and placed in three groups: 20 war veterans suffering from PTSD , chosen by PTSD scales 20 veterans not suffering from PTSD and 20 normal people without any war experience. All three groups were evaluated by WatsonPTSD questionnaires, declarative memory memory interview and delayed recall story) and meta cognition questionnaire .The research hypotheses were tested by multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). The result have indicated that the function of declarative memory in the three groups without the control of meta cognition moderator is significant , in another word the declarative memory function in war veterans suffering from PTSD is different with the two other groups. It can be also deduced from the results of the research that the declarative memory function by the control of meta cognition modifying  role was not significant this time which indicates the modifying role of meta cognition in decreasing the declarative memory function in war veterans suffering from PTSD in comparison with the two other mentioned groups.

Abstract

HIV is associated with extensive physical and psychological consequences, significantly affecting the quality of life of patients. Cognitive rehabilitation is a novel intervention aimed at improving cognitive and psychological functioning in these individuals. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation intervention on reducing depression, improving working memory, and enhancing attention in patients with immune deficiency. This quasi-experimental study utilized a pretest-posttest control group design and was conducted in Izeh, Iran, in 2023. A total of 30 patients with HIV were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (15 participants per group). Instruments included the Beck Depression Inventory, Working Memory Assessment, and Continuous Performance Test to measure attention. The experimental group underwent 12 sessions of cognitive rehabilitation (60 minutes each, three times a week), while the control group received no intervention. Posttests were administered to both groups after the intervention. Data were analyzed using multivariate covariance analysis (MANCOVA) in SPSS.23. The results showed that cognitive rehabilitation significantly reduced depression and improved working memory and attention in the experimental group compared to the control group (P ≤ 0.001). These findings suggest that cognitive rehabilitation is an effective approach for enhancing cognitive and psychological outcomes in patients with immune deficiency and can be utilized in therapeutic settings.

Abstract

The study aimed to explain and design a theoretical model of pilots' operational cognitive resilience in the military aviation industry, a concept referring to the mechanism of maintaining, recovering, and readjusting executive functions and the mind's information processing system when faced with acute stress and operational constraints of flight. This study was conducted using a qualitative approach and based on the grounded theory strategy (Strauss and Corbin's version, 1998). The required data were gathered through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with 15 experts in the field of cognitive sciences and senior operational pilots (with a history of over 2000 flight hours); the sampling process continued using a theoretical approach until achieving conceptual saturation. Data analysis was carried out through a systematic coding process in three stages: open, axial, and selective coding.

Qualitative analyses revealed that the core phenomenon of this study was pilots' operational cognitive resilience, which was explained as a dynamic, multidimensional, and context-bound construct. This conceptual construct was considered the product of a synergistic and systematic interaction among three major dimensions: the individual dimension (including basic and higher cognitive functions, executive inhibition, emotional-motivational components, personality patterns, physical stability, and implicit memory resulting from flight experience), the organizational dimension (comprising team tasks and the promotion of a safety culture), and the family dimension (as a source of emotional and psychological support). The fundamental achievement of this research was providing a coherent conceptual framework for analyzing pilots' cognitive behaviors under crisis conditions, which can serve as an analytical foundation for developing future applied interventions and empirical research in this domain.
