Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the structural relationship among Behavioural inhibition system (BIS) and Behavioural activation system (BAS), dispositional mindfulness and alexithymia. For this reason, in a descriptive-coorelational and retrospective study, 180 university students were selected from Tabriz University by convenient sampling method and asked to answer TAS-20, FFMQ and BIS/BAS scale. Results showed that behavioural inhibition system has sinificantly positive and direct effect on dispositional mindfulness and alexithymia. There is not significant relationship between dispositional mindfulness and alexithymia. The indirect effect of behavioural inhibition system and behavioural activation system on alexithymia is not significant. According to the results, the behavioural inhibition system is the important determinants of mindfulness and alexithymia. Also, the tested model able to explain alexithymia in normal people.

Abstract

The aim of this research was study the mediating role of mindfulness in the relationship between extraversion/neuroticism with mental well being. In the descriptive (corelational) study, 152 Kharazmi university students (61 male, 91 female) were randomly selected and they answered the short-form Revised Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQR-S) and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). Also, for assessment of mental well being used the Five-item Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS). Results showed the positive relationship between extraversion with mental well being and mindfulness and the negative relationship between neuroticism with mental well being and mindfulness. Hierarchical regression analysis showed mindfulness have mediating role in the relationship between extraversion and positive affect. Also, mindfulness is mediate role in the relationship between neuroticism and negative affect and in the relationship between neuroticism and life satisfaction

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive therapy based on mindfulness combined with memory specificity training (MeST) and comparing it with mindfulness therapy and memory specificity training (MeST) on anxiety in hemodialysis patients. The research method is semi-experimental with pretest-posttest design with control group. The statistical population of the present study was hemodialysis patients referring to hemodialysis centers of Tehran and Alborz hospitals in 2017. A total of 48 people were selected through purposeful sampling. Beck Anxiety measurement questionnaire.The interventive methods were included mindfulness protocol, memory specificity training (MeST), and mindfulness protocol were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using multivariate covariance.The results show that there is a significant difference between the anxiety of the groups of mindfulness therapy combined with memory specificity training (MeST), mindfulness, memory specificity training (MeST) and control group in the post-test phase of hemodialysis patients. The results also showed that in the follow up phase, there was a difference between the groups in favor of the integrated intervention group, But in the mindfulness group, the anxiety returned to a low level. In explaining the findings, it can be stated that the conscientious mind with the teaching of memory specificity is the relationship between the past and the solution of the incomplete problems of the past in the first step and in the second step, is entering into the present and improving the acceptance and awareness. Since the type of treatment used in this research has a clear structure and home-based homework, it increases the ability of follow-up referrals and has significantly influenced the relevant techniques in changing the mental state of individuals.

Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease associated with high levels of stress and significant negative impact on patients' quality of life. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction on quality of life and perceived stress in patients with psoriasis. This study was a semi-experimental study with pre-test, post-test and follow-up. The study statistical population included all the patients with psoriasis referred to specialized dermatology clinics in Khorramabad. The patients were first screened using the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then 24 patients with psoriasis were selected through convenience sampling method and randomly allocated into experimental and control groups. The instrumental of this study was perceived stress scale and Dermatology Life Quality Index.The experimental group received MBSR intervention during eight sessions. Data analysis was done at descriptive and inferential levels using SPSS (23) and with normality tests, MANCOVA and ANCOVA. The results indicated that MBSR was effective in improving quality of life and reducing the perceived stress in patients with psoriasis and the effect of treatment was stable at the follow-up (p<0.001). MBSR can be used as an effective intervention to improve quality of life and reduce the perceived stress in patients with psoriasis.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the predictors of quality of life and psychological well-being of mothers of students with intellectual disabilities mediated by mothers' mindfulness. In this descriptive-correlational study, 298 students (out of 878 students) from primary schools with students with intellectual disability in Golestan province, in the academic year 2019-2020, were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling. The instruments used in the study were: The Rutter childrens behavior questionnaire, Matson’s social skills scale, Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, World Health Organization Quality Of Life, and Ryff Psychological Wellbeing Scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation test and structural equation modeling. The results showed that here is a significant positive correlation between social skills and mindfulness with quality of life and psychological well-being. There is a significant negative correlation between behavioral problems and quality of life and psychological well-being. The mediating role of mindfulness in relation to social skills and behavioral problems with quality of life and psychological well-being was also confirmed (P <0.01). Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that increasing social skills and reducing students' behavioral problems in school improves the quality of life and psychological well-being of their mothers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness based cognitive therapy anxiety and cigarette craving. The present research is a quasi-experimental, pre-test and post-test with the experimental and control group. The statistical population consisted of all smokers who were referred to health centers in 22nd district of Tehran in the spring of 1396. 30 Individuals were selected by available sampling method. The subjects were randomly assigned into experimental and control groups. To measure anxiety, the Spielberger questionnaire and cigarette craving, Fagerstrom questionnaire were used. After selecting the experimental and control group, interventional training on mindfulness based cognitive therapy on the experimental group was performed for 8 sessions of 90 minutes and one session per week. One-way covariance analysis was used to analyze the data.  Data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the mean of post test scores of the experimental and control groups in anxiety and cigarette craving (p<0.01); as mindfulness based cognitive therapy reduced anxiety and cigarette craving in experimental group.  Generally, could be showed that mindfulness based cognitive therapy could improve the psychological components of smoking cessation.

Abstract

The aim of this research was comparison of the effectiveness of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy(MBCT) and Transcranial direct-current Stimulation(tDCS) in pain intensity and quality of life and their subcomponents on fibromyalgia patients. The study was semi-experimental pre-post treatment design. 36 fibromyalgia patients were selected and randomly classified into three MBCT, tDCS and sham group. The members of these groups were asked to complete short form of McGill Pain questionnaire and SF-36 Quality of life questionnaire before and after the intervention. Multivariate Covariance analysis showed that in terms of the pain intense variable, while both treatments were effective, but no significant differences between MBCT and tDCS treatment was seen(P<0.05) In terms of quality of life, the MBCT method was significantly more effective than both sham and tDCS groups(P<0.05) this paper showed significant results in effectiveness of MBCT and tDCS on fibromyalgia patients that could help the therapists to treat them and decrease their treatment costs.

Abstract

Research has shown a negative correlation between mindfulness and defensive reactions to the reminder/thought of death, and the purpose of the present study was to illuminate the effect of meditation and mindfulness on these reactions using an experimental method. The call for participation in the study was sent to 30,000 subscribers of Hamrahe Aval and Irancell in Tehran and using the convenience sampling, 127 of them (53 males) with a mean age of 37 years were selected to participate in this study and were randomly assign to four groups of Meditation-Death Thought, Meditation-Without Death Thought, Without Meditation-Death Thought, and Without Meditation-Without Death Thought. After teaching Buddhist mindful breathing meditation and measuring mindfulness using Toronto Mindfulness Scale (TMS), death thought was created in participants using the method of Burke et al. (2010) and then death thought Suppression, as an immediate defense, was measured using the method of Arndt et al. (1997) once after creating death thought and once after a delay, and worldview defense, as a delayed defense, was measured using the method of Greenberg et al. (1990) after a delay. ANOVAs showed that meditation increased mindfulness and was able to prevent the effect of death thought on death thought suppression

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and introduce training package of chronic pain self-management interventions and evaluate its effects on improving pain self-management (PSM), mindfulness skills (MS), metacognitive beliefs (MB), and cognitive emotion regulation strategies (CERS) in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP). The statistical population included all patients with CMP who were referred to Tehran hospitals between June 2020 and December 2021. Among these, 22 people (two experimental and control groups) of eligible individuals were selected by voluntary sampling method and examined during a quasi-experimental design. The experimental group underwent 8 online intervention sessions and were evaluated online by GSCS-7, PSMC-18, FFMQ-39, MCQ-30 and CERQ-18 during tree sessions (pre-test, post-test and follow-up). Data were analyzed by MANKOVA. According to the results, the overall effects of the self-management interventions were significant (p < 0.05). Also the interventions had a significant effects on improving PSM, increasing the use of MS, and improving CERS (p<0.05), however, the interventions had no significant effects on reducing dysfunctional MB (p < 0.05). Considering the evidence from this study, the authors believe that the use of chronic pain self-management interventions for people with CMP has significant clinical benefits, so its use is recommended to health care providers.

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this article is to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive therapy group training based on mindfulness on academic vitality and social health. Method: Quantitative-applied research of an experimental type with a pre-test, post-test design with a control group, and the statistical population includes all female students of the first grade of high school in Bandar Anzali city, who were randomly divided into two groups of 20 people, controlled and tested. Martin and Marsh's (2008) academic vitality questionnaires, Keyes and Shapiro's (2004) social health questionnaires, as well as the mindfulness training protocol have been used as the intervention variable of the research for data collection tools. To test the hypotheses, univariate covariance analysis was used using SPSS software. Findings: The research results showed that mindfulness training is effective on academic vitality and social health. Conclusion: Mindfulness training improves the social health and academic vitality of female students.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to compare the effectiveness of schema therapy and cognitive therapy based on mindfulness on stress, resilience, emotional regulation and psychological well-being of cardiovascular patients. The research method is practical in terms of purpose and semi-experimental in terms of data collection method. The statistical population of this research includes cardiovascular patients in Tehran in 1401. According to the nature of the study method, the size of the statistical sample was 30 people. The research tools are Connor and Davidson's resilience questionnaire, Rief's psychological well-being questionnaire, Cohen's perceived stress questionnaire and Garnevsky's emotion regulation questionnaire. It was found that schema therapy has been effective on the resilience of cardiovascular patients, cognitive therapy based on mindfulness has been effective on the stress of cardiovascular patients, schema therapy has been effective on emotional regulation of cardiovascular patients, cognitive therapy based on mindfulness has been effective on emotional regulation of patients Cardiovascular has been effective, schema therapy has been effective on the psychological well-being of cardiovascular patients, cognitive therapy based on mindfulness has been effective on the psychological well-being of cardiovascular patients; It was also found that schema therapy was more effective than cognitive therapy based on mindfulness.

Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim of comparing the effectiveness of cognitive therapy based on mindfulness and schema therapy on mental rumination and social anxiety of women with practical obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The current research method was semi-experimental with pre-test, post-test and follow-up. The statistical population of the research included all women with obsessive-compulsive disorder who referred to the counseling centers of Mashhad in 1402, based on the entry and exit criteria, 48 people were selected as a sample using the purposeful-available sampling method and randomly divided into two experimental groups. and a control group were assigned. Subjects were evaluated using Hoeksma and Maro (1991) rumination questionnaires and Wells' (1994) social anxiety questionnaires in the pre-test, post-test and follow-up stages. The results of mixed analysis of variance showed that the difference Significance between intervention groups with control in mental rumination and social anxiety of women with obsessive compulsive symptoms, the presence of medication, cognitive therapy based on mindfulness and schema therapy has led to the reduction of mental rumination and social anxiety. Also, schema therapy is more effective than cognitive therapy based on mindfulness in mental rumination.

Abstract

The present study aimed to comparison the effectiveness of cognitive therapy based on mindfulness and schema therapy on emotional regulation and distress tolerance of women with obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The present research method was semi-experimental with pretest, posttest and follow-up. The statistical population of the study included all women with obsessive-compulsive disorder who referred to the counseling centers of Mashhad in 2023-2024. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 48 people were selected by convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. The participants were evaluated using the emotion regulation questionnaire (Gross & John, 2003) and distress tolerance scale in the pretest, posttest and follow-up. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26 software and using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of and analysis of variance with repeated measures showed that there is a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in emotion regulation and distress tolerance (P<0.05). Cognitive therapy based on mindfulness and schema therapy has led to improved emotion regulation and increased distress tolerance. Cognitive therapy based on mindfulness is more effective than schema therapy in improving emotion regulation.

Abstract

Mindful parenting is a new application of mindfulness that aims to improve parenting by promoting parental attention, increasing awareness of parenting stress, and reducing parental reactivity. The purpose of this study was to identify the components of mindful parenting. The research method was qualitative and the strategy was thematic analysis. The research environment included all parents who referred to psychology and counseling clinics in Shiraz, as well as psychologists and specialists in the field of working with children. Using the available sampling method and semi-structured interviews, a total of 12 people were selected. After collecting the data, analysis and coding were performed. The results showed that the components of mindful parenting include: appropriate behavior towards the child, age and capacity of the child, problem-solving efforts, child-like role model, leveling with the child, deep attention to interaction with the child, self-regulation, preventing judgment of the child, promoting emotional intelligence, empathy with the child, and forgiveness.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in perfectionism of patients with migraine headache. Using pretest-posttest based quasi-experimental design, with a three-group design. Using quasi-experimental design based on pre-test and post-test, three groups of patients with migraine headaches referring to Mashhad neurology clinic were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were randomly divided into three groups (two experimental groups and one control group, each group 15).  The perfectionism questionnaire was used to collect information. Data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance (MONCOVA) and Bonferroni post hoc test. Based on the results, both cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy significantly reduced perfectionism in patients with migraine headache. The results also showed that mindfulness based cognitive therapy has a greater effect on reducing perfectionism in patients with migraine headache. In general, interventions based on mindfulness and cognitive behavioral principles can play a fundamental role in ensuring the psychological health of patients with migraine headache.

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to examine the mediating role of empathy in the relationship between relational mindfulness and marital intimacy. Given the fundamental impact of marital relationships on individual and social mental health, identifying factors that enhance the quality and intimacy of these relationships is of paramount importance. This descriptive-correlational study targeted the entire population of married students at the University of Tehran during the academic year 2022-2023. A sample of 300 married students (both male and female) was selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using three validated questionnaires: the Marital Intimacy Questionnaire (Vandenbroek & Werten, 1995), the Empathy Scale (Jolliffe & Farrington, 2006), and the Relational Mindfulness Scale (Kims et al., 2018). The data were analyzed using SPSS26 and AMOS24 through structural equation modeling. The results indicated a significant and positive relationship between relational mindfulness and empathy (β = 0.27, p < 0.001). Additionally, empathy was significantly and positively related to marital intimacy (β = 0.36, p < 0.001), and a positive and significant relationship was found between relational mindfulness and marital intimacy (β = 0.17, p < 0.002). Comparing the direct and full models revealed that empathy plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between relational mindfulness and marital intimacy. These findings underscore the importance of understanding the role of empathy and mindfulness in enhancing marital intimacy and can serve as a foundation for designing psychological interventions aimed at improving marital relationships.

Abstract

The present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a relationship-based mindfulness intervention on perceived stress and the quality of marital interactions among couples experiencing communication problems. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with pretest–posttest, control group, and short-term follow-up. The study population consisted of couples seeking family counseling services in Tehran in 2025, with 30 couples selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Instruments included the Cohen Perceived Stress Scale, the Marital Interaction Quality Questionnaire, and a demographic information form. The intervention consisted of eight sessions focused on mindfulness skills applied in relational contexts, including present-moment awareness, mindful listening, conflict management, and empathy cultivation. Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA and post-hoc tests. Results indicated that the intervention significantly reduced perceived stress and enhanced the quality of marital interactions, with effects maintained at short-term follow-up. These findings align with previous studies and highlight the capacity of relationship-based mindfulness to manage conflicts, foster empathy, and improve couples’ relational skills. The study underscores the potential of this intervention as an evidence-based approach for family counselors and preventive programs targeting marital communication issues. Limitations include a small sample size, short-term follow-up, and self-report measures; future studies are recommended to utilize larger samples and longer follow-up periods to examine the durability of intervention effects.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions of acceptance and commitment and mindfulness on the biological, psychological and social indicators of women with human papillomavirus.This study was a semi-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test design and a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population included all female patients with human papilloma virus who lived in Dubai and visited Al-Shafa Behavioral Diseases Clinic .Through purposive sampling, 45 subjects were selected and randomly allocated to either the ACT, mindfulness or the control group (n = 15 per group). Then the subjects of the two experimental groups were subjected to training based on acceptance and commitment therapy and training based on mindfulness for 8 sessions of 90 minutes.  The data collection tool was DASS-21 (1993), Marlowe and Crown's (1996) Social Desirability Scale. the results, a tangible difference was spotted between the groups in the pre-and post-test stage and considering time impact on the mean virous (η2=0.888, F=222.695, p<0.001), depression (η2=0.953, F=562.146, P<0.001), anxiety (η2=0.760, F=88.843, P<0.001), stress (η2=0.953, F=405.704, P<0.001), and social desirability (η2=0.26, F=9.820, P<0.001). In general, the results showed that both methods of educational intervention were effective in women.

Abstract

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adolescence is associated with persistent deficits in self-regulation, poor self-management skills, and increased social-emotional problems, including social anxiety. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based stress reduction program on self-management skills and social anxiety in adolescents with ADHD. The study was conducted in a quasi-experimental manner with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group and a two-month follow-up. The study population included adolescents aged 13 to 15 years with this disorder, 30 of whom were selected using a convenience method and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in eight 90-minute sessions of a mindfulness-based stress reduction program, while the control group was on a waiting list. The research instruments included the Adolescent Self-Management Questionnaire and the Adolescent Social Anxiety Scale, which were administered in three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up. Data were analyzed using repeated measures multivariate analysis of variance. The results showed that the implementation of the mindfulness-based stress reduction program significantly increased self-management skills and significantly reduced social anxiety in the experimental group compared to the control group, and these effects remained largely stable at the two-month follow-up. Based on the findings, the mindfulness-based stress reduction program can be used as a complementary and effective intervention in improving cognitive-behavioral functions and reducing social-emotional problems in adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Abstract

This review study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in reducing social anxiety among adolescents. A systematic search was conducted across Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, Magiran, and IranDoc using relevant keywords. Studies assessing MBCT’s impact on adolescent social anxiety with a PEDro score above 5 were included. From 43 identified articles, 6 met the inclusion criteria. Findings indicated that MBCT significantly reduces social anxiety in adolescents, though variations in methodology, sample size, and assessment tools were observed. These results underscore MBCT’s potential as an effective intervention for social anxiety. It is recommended that MBCT be integrated into school-based counseling and mental health programs. Further research with standardized methodologies is needed to explore MBCT’s efficacy across diverse cultural contexts.
