سرده گز با حدود 54 گونه بزرگترین سرده تیره گزیان است. یکی از گونه­های این سرده، گونه Tamarix tetragyna  است که در منابع مختلف با استفاده از صفات ریخت شناسی دو واریته T. tetragyna var. meyeri Boiss. و T. tetragyna var. deserti برای آن ذکر شده است. به دلیل وجود هم‌پوشانی در صفات استفاده شده در کلید‌های شناسایی برای جدایی این دو واریته، استفاده از مطالعات دیگر هم‌چون مطالعات تشریحی و مولکولی و هم‌چنین یافتن صفات موثرتر ریخت‌شناسی برای جدایی دو واریته می‌تواند حائز اهمیت باشد. در این پژوهش به منظور تایید وجود دو واریته در ایران نمونه­‌های گیاهی جمع آوری و با استفاده از مطالعات ریخت‌شناسی، تشریحی و مولکولی مورد بررسی قرار گرفتند. به منظور انجام مطالعات ریخت شناسی 6 صفت کمی و کیفی در 12 نماینده از این دو واریته مورد بررسی قرار گرفت. آنالیز ANOVA تفاوت معنی داری را بین صفات مورد بررسی نشان داد. برای مطالعات تشریحی در این دو واریته 10 صفت در 4 نماینده از دو واریته مورد بررسی قرار گرفت که این صفات نیز تفاوت معنی داری را نشان دادند. آنالیز AMOVA بر اساس مطالعات مولکولی با استفاده از نشانگر SCoT تفاوت معنی داری در بین دو واریته نشان داد. نمودار PCA biplot برای نشان دادن متغیرترین صفات در مطالعات ریخت‌شناسی و تشریحی رسم شد. نمودار های خوشه‌ای مختلف برای نشان دادن جدایی مرز بین واریته­‌ها در هر سه مطالعه رسم شدند. این نتایج نشان داد که استفاده از صفات تشخیصی مناسب در مطالعات ریخت­شناسی و تشریحی و هم‌چنین استفاده از نشانگرهای مولکولی می‌تواند در نشان دادن جدایی مرز این دو واریته موثر باشد.
