Abstract
Let be a Banach algebra. It is shown that a contractible ideal of a Banach algebra is complemented by its annihilator. Then, it is proved the existence of minimal central idempotents in a contractible Banach algebra with a nonzero character. Moreover, the notion of b-contractibility and one of its equivalent forms are introduced. Throgh an example, it is shown that b-contractibility is strictly weaker than contractibility.

To prove the famous Cohen factorization theorem, even in Banach algebras, having a bounded approximate identity has special importance. In extending the Cohen’s theorem to topological algebras, we not only use an approximate identity, but some more powerful boundedness is also needed. Here we recall an open problem about uniformly bounded approximate identities on complete metrizable LMC algebras, and try to answer it1.

I In Banach algebras, the group algebra L(G) is Arens regular if and only if G is finite. In this paper, the researcher has obtained a hypergroup structure (in the sense of Dunkl) whose measure algebra has regular multiplication. The most interesting result was that if L(X) is Arens regular then the convolution is Arens regular as a bilinear map. The condition obtained gives regularity of multiplication in the Hypergroup, which X is not finite.
