Maternal alcohol abuse causes abnormal fetal development, a condition called fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). Hydrocephalus is one of the main features accompanying this condition. The early sign of hydrocephalus in the fetal period is ventricolumegaly, followed by reduction in the cortex thickness.
