هدف از این پژوهش بررسی اثر تمرین مشاهده‌ای بر پیش‌بینی و رفتار جستجوی بینایی در بازیکنان هندبال، در موقعیت‌های دفاع هندبال، بود. شرکت‌کنندگان 23 بازیکن مرد هندبالیست با دامنه سنی 19- 16 عضو تیم‌های ملی جوانان و پیشگامان اصفهان بودند. بازیکنان کلیپ­هایی از موقعیت­های دفاع هندبال، با استفاده از عینک ردیاب بینایی مشاهده کردند. پیش‌بینی خود را در مورد نتیجه موقعیت­ توپ طی پیش آزمون به صورت شفاهی بیان کردند. بازیکنان، در دو گروه رفتار خیرگی که تحت تمرین مشاهده‌ای (مشاهده کلیپ‌های خروجی عینک ردیاب بینایی) و گروه مشاهده که تنها کلیپ‌های هندبال را مشاهده کردند، قرار گرفتند. سپس از دو گروه بعد از 10 جلسه 45 دقیقه‌ای پس آزمون گرفته شد. نتایج حاصل از تحلیل واریانس مرکب عاملی با فرض کرویت موخلی نشان داد که، دقت پیش‌بینی و رفتار جستجوی بینایی گروه رفتارخیرگی در پس آزمون به‌طور معنی‌داری بهتر از گروه مشاهده بود. هندبالیست‌های مدافع در موقعیت دفاع 3×3 نسبت به دو موقعیت دیگر (2×2، 1×1)، برای پیش‌بینی و تشخیص الگوی بازیکن مهاجم بر اطلاعات زمینه‌ای و کینماتیک بازیکن مهاجم، تمرکز کردند.
