Abstract

Khosrow and Shirin is Nizami’s best lovepoem and is considered one of the best love stories in Persian literature. One of the most important reasons of Nizami’s success in this poem is his appropriate employment of the elements of narrative in comparison to his imitators and other writers of verse narrativesin the past. Tone is one of the important elements which distinguish Nizāmi’s work. In this article attempt is made to compare the element of tone in Nizami’sKhosrow and Shirin and this element in the poem with the same title by Amir KhosrowDihlavi, who is according to most scholars is the greatest imitator of Nizami in his five famous poems.
