Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effectiveness and to compare the brief behavioral activation treatment and meta-cognitive therapy in the reduction of the symptoms and in the improvement of the quality of life in the major depressed patients. Using a pre-test post-test experimental design along with control group and also conventional sampling method, 34 female subjects, being evaluated according to DSM-IV-TR by the psychiatrist, were randomly divided into two experimental groups and a control group namely group under short-term behavioral activation treatment, group under meta cognitive therapy and control group. The experimental groups were studied for two months .BDI-II, HRSD, WHOQOL-BREF were given to the subjects before and after treatment and at the 3 month follow up period. The results were analyzed using multi-variable covariance analysis, Tokay post hoc test, and T-test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the effectiveness of the two methods of treatment. The findings not only confirmed the effectiveness of the two methods of treatment in the reduction of symptoms and improvement of the quality of life in depressed patients, but they also showed the considerable preference of the short-term behavioral activation treatment over the meta cognitive therapy at the end of the treatment and also follow-up period. Both methods of treatment were effective in the reduction of depression symptoms, and given the preference of short-term behavioral activation treatment over the meta cognitive therapy, this method (short-term behavioral activation) can be used as a selected method for depression treatment.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the executive functions in two groups of individuals with opioid-dependent, amphetamine- dependent and to compare them with the executive functions in the individuals of the control group. Executive functions were investigated in 4 sub-scales including working memory sustain attention, inhibitory control and planning. To do so, 90 participants were selected via simple nonrandom or convenience sampling. Of these participants, 30 individuals were opioid-dependent, 30 individuals were amphetamine dependent and 30 individuals were healthy. Subjects of the study were evaluated using color-word Stroop, Wisconsin card sorting, continuous performance and digit span sub-scale test. The results of one way analysis of variance indicated significant deficits in amphetamine dependent group in 4 sub-scales of executive functions, but opioid dependent individuals had deficits in inhibitory control and planning compared to the control group. As a result, there were more deficits in the executive functions of amphetamine group in comparison to the opioid-dependent and control group. There were fewer deficits in the opioid-dependent group in comparison to the Amphetamine- dependent group.

Abstract

Interpersonal relationship other sex, has an important effect in youth psychological wellness and successful marriage. This study purpose is to investigate the part of each of maladaptive schemas in determining of quality of friendship or intimate relationship with other sex. Participants were 196 single female students with a friendship with other sex. Participants were chosen by cluster sampling from Karaj universities. They answered to three questionnaires: early maladaptive schemas, short form (young, 2006) quality of relationship scale (Sarason, 1983). Statistic methods were correlation and step by step regression. Findings concealed the negative effect of maladaptive schemas on quality of relationship. "Subjugation" determined 16% of conflict. Mistrust /abuse determined 36% of low perceived support, while self-sacrifice and insufficient Self-Control/Self-Discipline determined 5% of low perceived support. Social isolation determined 10%, and enmeshed self 4% of low depth. According to the results of this study, it will be beneficial to emphasize on these discovered schemas to determine the client's vulnerability in close relationship with other sex. And also to improve their relationships with increasing self-awareness, teaching interpersonal skill and schema therapy.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is investigated the cause of procrastination according to Cognitive, emotional and behavioral approach. So the model in based on cognitive, emotional and behavioral and procrastination is tested. And the impact of rational beliefs, irrational beliefs, frustration discomfort beliefs, hope beliefs, academic self-efficacy, and self-regulation Procrastination is studied. A sample of 900 students (447 females and 453 males) selected with stratified random sampling and answered to procrastination scale, Rvsblvm and Solom (1984), frustration discomfort scale , Harrington (2005) to measure frustration discomfort beliefs, self-regulated learning questionnaire, Greene and Miller (2004), self-efficacy questionnaire, Mydltn and Midgley (1997), irrational Beliefs Inventory Kvpmnz et al (1994). Path analysis run in two models: one with exogenous variables irrational beliefs and the frustration discomfort beliefs, and other exogenous variables rational beliefs, hope beliefs. The results indicate a good fit of the model. The amount of variance explained by frustration discomfort beliefs, irrational beliefs, self-efficacy and self-regulation was 0.32 and the variance explained by frustration discomfort beliefs, irrational beliefs, and self efficacy was 0.27. The amount of variance explained by rational beliefs, hope beliefs, self-efficacy and self-regulation was 0.24 and the variance explained by rational beliefs, hope beliefs, and self efficacy was 0.18. According to the results of research Education practitioners can reduce student procrastination by increasing self-efficacy and self-regulation, rational beliefs and hopes and decrease irrational beliefs and the frustration discomfort beliefs.

Abstract

With the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic disease and the social and economic consequences of this pandemic, volunteering and helping activities especially for needy people and the society in crisis developed. The aim of this study was to explore the role of attachment styles, empathy and self-compassion in predicting attitude toward helping during Covid-19 Outbreak in Iranian society. The present study conducted in April and May 2020 in Iran. The study sample (n=348) selected by convenient sampling method. Instruments of this study were the adult attachment scale, self-compassion scale, basic empathy scale, and helping attitude scale. Findings showed that participation of women; employed ones and the 25-35 year old age group were more than men, unemployed ones and other age group. There was significant difference between volunteer and non-volunteer groups in helping attitude, self-judgment, isolation, mindfulness, over-identification and secure attachment style. Correlation coefficients indicated that self-kindness; common humanity, isolation, mindfulness, cognitive empathy and secure attachment had positive significant correlation with helping attitude. In addition, anxious attachment negatively associated with helping attitude. Regression analysis indicated that cognitive empathy, emotional empathy, secure attachment style and mindfulness predicted helping attitude. It can conclude that volunteers for community services during COVID-19 outbreak had positive attitude toward helping and had more secure attachment styles and higher level of self-compassion in comparison to non-volunteers. It seems having strong empathy, secure attachment style and being mindful, are psychological prerequisites for having positive volunteering and helping attitudes.

Abstract

Over the years, weight loss motivation has been introduced as an important factor in weight loss and its stability. The purpose of the present study was to investigate psychometric properties of the Motivation for Weight Loss Questionnaire (WLM-Q) among overweight and obese Individuals. In this study, the Persian version of the WLM-Q prepared using back-translation was administrated to 453 individuals referring to diet therapy centres in Tehran. The internal consistency of the Persian version of the WLM-Q was assessed via Cronbach’s alpha. Moreover, the factor structure of the scale was assessed using confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis. The results of Cronbach's alpha for the whole scale was 0.82 and for the three extracted factors of health, appearance in relation to others, and appearance in relation to oneself, were 0.86, 0.85 and 0.74 respectively. The results indicated the desirable internal consistency of the scale and its components. The outcome of confirmatory factor analysis supported the factor structure obtained from exploratory factor analysis and the fit indices demonstrated a good model fit. In general, it can be concluded that the Persian version of the WLM-Q has desirable psychometric properties and is a reliable instrument for research and clinical settings.
